Amanda Ridyard
Greater Manchester Counsellor
1.
Individual
Psychotherapy
Individual (1-2-1) therapy can explore any issue that you feel burdened or challenged by. It doesn't have to be the 'weight of the world' just some 'thing' that seems to be holding you back or weighting you down.
Many issues are historical that are triggered by current events. Sometimes the things that bother us are fear or future based. Talking therapy helps to unravel, demystify and clarify.
2.
Couples
Therapy
I am an IAPT Accredited Couples Counsellor.
Sessions tend to be quite robust and can often be emotionally charged.
It is important to explore the truth within ourselves and seek common ground to build a stronger foundation to move forward with understanding, motivation and shared focus.
Sessions are staggered and might incur homework or tasks.
3.
Child & Adolscent
Therapy
The aim of therapy is to support in a helpful non-intrusive way.
Giving a child a safe space to explore and share fears without being judged, inviting them to trust them-self and the therapeutic process.
Great care and competence is required to safeguard the health and mental well-being of children and adolescents in therapy. Sessions are tailored and paced to each child's capacity to remain safe and understand the process without feeling pressured.
4.
STOP
Sexual Offending
The UK approach to the prevention of sexual abuse is not working - a few other countries have positively embarked upon desist prevention programs - offering some hope.
With a minimum of 1 in 20 having suffered sexual abuse - new research suggests therapy can help not only the victims but also the offender.

About me
Welcome to my web-page.
My name is Amanda and I am a fully qualified counsellor and a registered member of the BACP. My initial training was based at Bolton Community College where I spent four years from level 1 to competing level 4 in Counselling studies with amazing tutors and mentors. From there I completed a BA (hons) degree in Counselling through Middlesex University, and now just completing an advanced Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Salford university (2018).
Life can be challenging but you don't have to struggle on your own, having someone to talk confidentially too, who isn't there to judge, can be such a relief and can make a major difference to health and well-being.

My Approach
My work is based upon the humanistic and
integrative approaches, meaning - I place the
client as central to the therapeutic process.
Time, speed, content are client led inline with
safety and capacity.
Integrative approaches allow me to be more
flexible with solution seeking ideas such as
'timelines' or using expressive approaches such
as sand or art.
Counselling is not an easy option and I am the
first to acknowledge the courage and strength it
will have taken to enquire, and attend.
Therapy cannot teach you something you do
not know already, but it can help you think about things in a more positive way or move forward in
life, or have new strategies for future life
challenges.
Getting Help
The hardest part was facing the problem and deciding to do something about it - well done.
